New Ground:
Creating the Gold Standard for Speech Therapy in Georgia
The Georgia Aphasia Project was founded by two experienced Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) who have dedicated over a decade to working with individuals facing aphasia and related TBI symptoms.
In their roles as speech therapy providers, they noticed a significant gap in intensive treatment options within Georgia. Often, patients with aphasia had to seek intensive services, such as Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programs (ICAPs), out of state. This challenge sparked a commitment to explain aphasia to the broader public and develop resources that could meet this unmet need.

The founders envisioned creating the first ICAP in Georgia, a gold standard in speech therapy that provides extensive treatment and family training to help individuals recover communication abilities and reclaim activities that bring joy and fulfillment.

WHAT WE DO
Giving all people with Aphasia the tools to connect.

Our goal is to provide access to quality programs, resources, and treatment to persons with aphasia and their care partners. At the heart of our mission, we strive to bridge the GAP in the continuum of care, ensuring individuals with aphasia can effectively communicate their wants, thoughts, and needs – both within their community and to their loved ones
Aphasia Communication Groups
We offer in-person and virtual communication groups guided by two skilled speech therapists as a safe space for individuals with aphasia to share and practice communication skills.
Care Partner Support Groups
We want to support care partners and monthly support groups led by a licensed professional counselor.
Aphasia Camps
GAP Camps offer holistic treatment for people with aphasia weaving together individual and group therapy sessions with community involvement.
